Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity

~ Seneca

So, you’re going to Montenegro. Beaches, sun, delicious seafood platters. Problem is, they have no concept of European coffee norms. You know I’ve had a little huff about cinamon on my coffee. Well. Bite your tongue, and strap in, because in Montenegro, that’s the least of your worries ๐Ÿ™ˆ

I must admit, after a while I wasn’t sure I’d drink coffee there again. I was giving up. It is borderline Turkish gloop most coffee places serve. Burnt, strong, hot, scooped out milkfoam, with bits of coffee left in the cup and sugar, cinnamon, caramel and chocolate sauce on top. No question as to how you’d like it. I can imagine the conversation would go something like this:

Me: “What’s this?”

Bartender: “That is a cappuccino miss. I dare you to say otherwise. Oh, and I forgot; I don’t speak English and I hate tourists.” *Flexes his tattooed muscles*

So maybe don’t stir that pot, let’s smile and enjoy our holiday, thank you. Bask in the interesting norms of our fellow countries.

I actually saw signs outside restaurants and pubs saying “No tourists welcome”.

But, that’s the tourist’ way of life! You know? You gotta roll with it! It’s part of the charm. We don’t travel abroad to have the same experience we would have walking through our own local streets.

So me and Chris trudged on, persevered, and our efforts were rewarded. We found a sweet little shack of a place. Out the back they had tables under a sunroof where the waves slowly beat against the shore. You could dip your toes in, go for a swim, drink your coffee and relax. We spent many mornings there playing Gin Rummy, and the coffee there was the best we’d found, I think our standards had been lowered quite a bit. But hey, if low standards is what it takes to enjoy a cuppa in Montenegro, I’ll do it. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

The atmosphere was so effortless and relaxed, with the sounds of the ocean playing with the pebbles on the little beach, we could have fallen asleep right there, and that to me is when you’ve accomplished something special with your coffee shop. So all hail.

Final verdict:

Coffee: 3/6 ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

Atmosphere: 5/6 ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

Total: 4/6 ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
